Whatever you decide, your charter in the protected waters of Prince William Sound offers an unforgettable adventure in a seemingly untouched land far from the hectic summer traffic and combat fishing. With more than 35 years experience fishing, sightseeing and safely boating Prince William Sound, David, your host, Captain and fishing/sightseeing guide offers an experience like no other.

Two common concerns about our charters are that we are spending nights out in the ocean far from land and sleeping on a boat. Not only are we not spending nights out in the ocean, we aren’t spending days out in the open ocean. We are in a 10,000 square mile sound that is protected from the Gulf of Alaska by barrier islands. We are rarely more than 5 miles from land at any time and we spend nights in protected coves, often the only boat in the cove. As far as sleeping on a boat, many people tell us they haven’t slept that good in years. Our bunks are very comfortable and most of the time, you don’t really know you are on a boat once in bed. On the other hand, our cabins are small and we aren’t for everyone.

FISHING

Guided deep sea and freshwater fishing opportunities including halibut, salmon, rock fish, ling cod and more. We provide tackle, bait, fish filleting, ice, housing and meals aboard our vessel. Dine on fresh catch of the day including the best shrimp in Alaska. Take home a box or two of the best seafood America has to offer.

Most trips we are able to catch limits of halibut, salmon and rock fish. Ling cod are caught incidentally to other species. Due to time and distance we don’t often target ling cod specifically. See recommended weeks below for which species we are likely to catch each week.

The last few years we have been catching a fair number of king salmon while fishing for silvers. Most kings are “feeder” kings which are younger kings not ready to spawn, averaging around ten pounds, although we do catch 20-35 pound kings on occasion.

We take the utmost care of your catch- filleting, freezing, refrigerating and or icing your catch depending on the need. Fee's Custom Seafood's, at Whittier harbor, offers vacuum packing, freezing and shipping services. www.feescustomseafoods.com

ADVENTURE CRUISES

Adventure cruises offer amazing wildlife including humpback and killer whales, porpoise, sea otter, seals, sea lions, bald eagles, puffins and more. Mountain scenery, waterfalls, enchanting coves and tidewater glaciers provide endless spectacular back drops no matter what activities you are engaged in.

Itineraries are often requested for adventure cruises. Animals move around, the best fishing and shrimping spots change and the weather changes. We prefer to let your Captain create the best possible adventure based on what is happening that week by prioritizing your interests from a list of activity options we will provide rather than requesting an itinerary that would not capture the best adventure avaialble that particular week.

Combining a Denali Park trip and our adventure cruise is a great way to see both Alaska’s coast and interior in about a week. We no longer book the Denali trip for you, but we can put you in touch with a provider who can.

ACCOMMODATIONS

Good Times offers 3 small private guest cabins that sleep 2 each, 2 heads/toilets with walk in showers, a large salon to relax in, a large galley for great meals, and a covered cockpit (outside deck) for those less than perfect days. Good Times has a full size refrigerator, 2 freezers, clothes dryer and Jennaire oven. Can’t really say you would be roughing it.

Schedule, Flights & Ground transportation

Charters begin with boarding at 9 am and ending the final day between 10 am and noon. Adjustments to fit your itinerary for other activities/flights usually available.

Most flights to Anchorage arrive in the afternoon or evening so spending a night in Anchorage or making your way to Whittier the night before your charter makes 9 am boarding fit most schedules. Ending the charter at 10 am – noon allows you a full day of activities the last full day of your charter and breaks up what can be a long trip back to Whittier, depending on where we end up the last full day. Both times avoid the busiest tunnel access times in and out of Whittier.

For most, our local shuttle, Bear Valley Road Runner Shuttle is the best option and is usually less than renting a vehicle. www.bearvalleyroadrunner.com

There are two kinds of people in the world – those who have experienced Alaska and those that need to. When would be a good time for you?

theoretical ADVENTURE CRUISE ITINERARY

This is a basic itinerary that we often work with. There is no way to capture all that goes on during a day on Prince William Sound. Wildlife is prevalent along our routes, breathtaking scenery is around you constantly. Having an exclusive trip just for your family and or friends and the comforts and seaworthiness of the Good Times make our adventure cruises unlike any other. There are only a handful of Captains that have the experience, knowledge and ability to offer these cruises.

Day One

Board Good Times at 9 am, load your gear, receive a safety briefing and begin your cruise.

After visiting a black legged kittiwake rookery, we will cruise to Esther Island, home to one of the largest salmon hatcheries in North America. Here we can pull up to the hatchery and watch the tens of thousands of salmon waiting to spawn while they are preyed on by sea lions, eagles and black bear or go ashore, hike up to a hidden waterfall and then walk down to the hatchery and see the same activities from land. We will explain the fascinating operation of the hatchery, although going inside is no longer an option- as of this writing.

Cruising on we will visit a tufted puffin colony and one or two sea lion haulouts.
From there we will either cruise southwest toward Chenega Glacier or east to Meares Glacier. Before anchoring for the night we will drop shrimp pots and hopefully have fresh shrimp for lunch day two. That evening, there will be time to explore the area by inflatable boat or hike or?

Day Two

After breakfast we will retrieve the shrimp pots and visit whichever glacier we headed toward. Meares Glacier is a very active glacier, one of the few glaciers that is advancing. In 2023, while visiting we could see where it is mowing down trees that are 50 or more years old. Chenega Glacier is in retreat and is starting to show signs of becoming a land based glacier.

After visiting Chenega Glacier we will spend some time locating humpback and or killer(orca) whales and spend some time with them if they allow us. There may be enough time to catch a salmon for dinner.

Basically the same for Meares Glacier, although the distance to fishing grounds is farther.

Day Three

Fish on! If requested we would spend the day pursuing halibut, rockfish and salmon and likely see more whales and porpoise over the course of the day.

If fishing isn’t on the list of things to do, we would spend the day sightseeing, wildlife viewing, beach combing, hiking, or ?

That evening, if we traveled south we would eat dinner and fillet fish while underway back toward Whittier.

Day Four

Day four is basically breakfast and the final 2-3 hours back to Whittier watching for wildlife and getting ready for your departure. Arrival back to Whittier 11 am give or take an hour.
