Alaska Boat Based Hunting
ALASKA BLACK BEAR HUNTS

Prince William Sound offers prime black bear hunting with potential for spectacular trophies offering unsurpassed hide quality. Accommodations on the Good Times, the wildlife and scenery plus fishing opportunities make this a great trip to bring the spouse along, even if they don’t care to hunt.

Spring Black Bear Hunts - May

Hunting is accomplished spotting from the Good Times or Fool's Gold, cruising small bays with inflatable boats or hunting from land. Spotting 20-25 bears on a 6 day hunt is common. Hunting pressure in Prince William Sound, like most areas, is increasing. Bears are wary and successful stalks are a challenge. Patience and persistence can produce trophy black bears. In spring, bears are found from the beach to 2000’ depending on weather and food availability. Hillsides can often be steep as bears tend to favor steeper slopes in spring where snow melts off early. Spring hunts usually offer mild weather with cool mornings and temperatures in the 50’s to 60’s during the day. Spring hunts include fishing for halibut and rockfish and shrimping in the area hunted.

Fall Black Bear Hunts - September 10th to late October

Black bear are often found feeding in salmon streams the first week or two of season. Late September and October bears move into alpine areas and forests to feed on blueberries. Terrain is often milder than spring hunt areas. Fall weather tends to be wetter compare to spring. Fall hunts may include opportunity for halibut, rock fish, ling cod, occasionally salmon and shrimp- shrimping season closes September 15th.

Alaska Boat Based Hunting
Black Bear/Deer Hunt Combos

Bear and deer hunt combos available September 10th to late October. Late September and early October have been the most productive in recent years. Guided fishing included, weather permitting.

ALASKA BROWN BEAR HUNTS

Brown bear hunting available for Alaska residents and non-residents escorted by an Alaska resident within second kindred. Season opens October 15th and runs through May 25th. Brown bears tend to come out of their dens earlier than black bear and den up a bit later. Fall brown bear hunts can also include deer hunting and guided fishing. We do not offer guided brown bear hunting - non-residents without an Alaskan relative escort can only hunt guided. Rates for unguided brown bear hunts similar to black bear rates. There may be a charge for additional fuel depending on the hunt area chosen. Call David @ 907-715-7447 for more info.

ALASKA DEER HUNTS
Alaska Deer Hunts - Boat Based & Drop Offs

Not your ordinary hunts. Live aboard deer hunts provide a level of comfort seldom experienced hunting deer in Alaska. Both of our boats provide breakfast and dinner, a dry warm place to sleep and daily beach drop offs and pickups. In addition, Good Times has a dryer, which tends to be very popular on deer hunts.

Our services include transportation from Whittier to/from the field, transportation while in the field, guided fishing, meals and lodging aboard our vessels. As Big Game Transporters we provide unguided hunts, we do not assist with hunting - spotting, stalking, skinning, or packing.

Good Times, our 50' boat is available for most live aboard deer hunts.

Fool's Gold, our 40' boat, is used for drop offs and shorter deer hunts.

Alaska Boat Based Hunting
NEW!

Beginning 2017, we plan to anchor 50' Good Times in different areas of Prince William Sound each week from late October to late November and offer a daily live aboard rate plus a discounted transport rate when you book a live aboard and transport together. This will allow smaller parties better rates as they won't be subject to minimum live aboard rates.

Black tail deer were transplanted to Prince William Sound in the 1920’s and now inhabit most of Prince William Sound. Season opens August 1st for bucks only. October 1st either sex hunting begins. Bag limit is 4 deer for non-residents, 5 for residents. Deer populations fluctuate based on winter conditions. Call David for information on current population conditions.

Although deer are occasionally found on the beach, climbing to elevations of 500’ -1500’ is normal. Calling, raking, walking and lots of looking/glassing are common methods of hunting. Hunters are transported to the beach each morning and picked up upon request. Daily drop off and pickups allowhunters to start in one location and be picked up elsewhere, saving time and energy.

One of our Texan hunters refers to hunting with us as “hunting wild deer”. It is a game of wits and Alaska deer win a lot, but it is great fun and extraordinary venison.

Live aboard deer hunts are offered at discounted rates due to limited travel, 2 meals per day instead of 3 and fishing is limited to 1-2 days when booking our lowest rate.

AUGUST / HALIBUT - SALMON - DEER ADVENTURES

Black tail deer season opens August 1st. Halibut and silver salmon fishing combined with black tail deer hunting makes a great Alaskan adventure. Foliage is heavy in August so most hunting is accomplished in the alpine areas above timberline. The adventure is worth the trip - halibut, salmon and venison in the freezer is the ultimate bonus. Minimum trip length 5 days. 6 days 6 nights aboard Good Times is recommended for this trip.
Special rates offered on August hunts, click here more info.

SEPTEMBER DEER HUNTS

September deer hunting is bucks only. In late September a lot of foliage has dropped and the deer haven't been hunted much. Hunters looking only for bucks find it a good time to hunt with limited hunting pressure.

SEPTEMBER - OCTOBER /BLACK BEAR / DEER HUNT COMBOS

Deer/black bear combos available from September 10th until the bears den up in late October. We recommend 7-8 day hunts when pursuing multiple species. Fishing is included in the hunt area as well. Bear hunt rates apply to deer/bear combos.

OCTOBER - NOVEMBER /BLACKTAIL DEER HUNTS

Beginning October 1st, either sex hunting begins. Hunters are transported to the beach each morning and picked up upon request. Daily drop off and pickup allow hunters to start in one location and be picked up elsewhere, saving time and energy.

DROP OFF HUNTS

Drop off hunts are provided aboard 40' Fool's Gold. Drop offs are available to US Forest Service and State Park cabins or to areas suitable for tent camping. Rates are based on the total distance traveled and are set each season based on fuel prices - call David for current rates. Recent rates have between $12-$13 per mile. Rates are per party for up to 6. Parties larger than 6 pay an additional fee. We also offer a 25% discount when 2 different parties can share the same mileage either by traveling together or if we drop one party off and pick up another party the same day. Discount applies only to common mileage - mileage that only applies to one party is charged at the full rate.

ALASKA GOAT HUNTS

Alaska resident unguided goat hunts available either by drop off or live aboard or a combination of both.

Non-resident guided goat hunts available combining our services with Big Game Guide James(Bim) Blake.

Several registration goat hunts are available in Prince William Sound. We offer drop off hunts, boat based hunts or a combination of both. Each hunt is different and prices set accordingly.

Boat based guided hunts are usually done by transporting you to the hunting area, setting up a base camp on a beach, then you'll pack up and set up a spike camp. As you harvest your trophies we will pick you up at the base camp and if weather allows go fishing while other hunters are still out. Another option is to transport you to an area and drop you off, then return later for pickup and possibly do some fishing or hunt other species before returning to port.

Nothing in Alaska comes easy and goats are no exception. Using guides and or transporters when hunting in unfamiliar areas can make your trip much "easier" and more successful.

Goat hunt prices vary as every hunt is different. Drop off goat hunts are similar to any drop off - we charge based on total miles traveled. Live aboard goat hunts may be offered at discounted rates because they often include time on our boats and time ashore in tents. Hunting daily from our boats is possible when weather is favorable.

Non-residents interested in goat hunting -we recommend contacting James(Bim) Blake directly @ 907-598-9460. Please let him know you found his number on our website.

Alaska residents interested in goat hunting please call David @ 907-715-7447 or e-mail agtc.david@gmail.com

Hunting occurs on Chugach National Forest lands which encompasses most of Prince William Sound.

Alaska resident options include unguided black bear, deer, goat and brown bear hunts.

How To Get To Us?

In most cases fly into Anchorage. We are based in Whittier, approximately 60 miles from Anchorage. Van service and rental car options available in Whittier and Anchorage.

How Many Hunters?

Parties of 4-6 work best for our hunting charters. Smaller groups are accommodated using our 40' boat or by matching up 2 parties on the same hunt. Larger groups can be accommodated using both boats.

Non-Hunter Prices

Our prices are based on the number of people aboard. Bringing a non-hunter along will lower the price for everyone so there is a per person savings. Non-hunters who want to fish but not hunt requires more time and expense so no discount is offered. A non-hunter who only fishes when other hunters are fishing or doesn't wish to fish is afforded a discount for parties of 5-6. Exact discount determined based on the hunt details.
